"'A Discovery of Time and Space' by Lesley L. Smith is an exciting science fiction novel that expertly and effortlessly portrays the elements of a peak science book and elements of a peak fiction novel.
...One of the numerous notable strengths of the book lies in the author's very detailed plot. The author showcased a god-level knowledge of time and time travel as he ensured that the book had no loopholes involving time travel. An excellent example is the concept of the future self meeting the present self just before the present self travels to the future. This ensures a harmonious storyline without a break in the story. Another reason I liked the book was the author's decision to include some funny made-up words... This helped ease the tension and added elements of humour to the story. I also like the author's choice of vocabulary, as the book was written with simple, comprehensible words, avoiding too much scientific jargon. The author made it easier for non-science-affiliated readers to enjoy.
...Overall, I'd rate the book 5 out of 5 stars for its flawless plot and the author's perfect choice of vocabulary.
I'd recommend the book to every single reader who enjoys science fiction novels, as I personally consider this one of the best science fiction novels I've come across."

"In Smith's SF novel, a college student finds herself experiencing increasingly bizarre incidents involving distortions of time.
At the University of Colorado, Boulder, Tiffani Taylor is a student resident advisor in the undergraduate dorms. One day, she lapses into a state of altered consciousness in which she observes an empty landscape, passes out in public, and is briefly aided by a mysterious older woman. An adoptee, Tiffani has dark skin, an unknown ethnic background, and a diagnosis of ADHD; she is consumed by curiosity over the incident and what implications may lurk in her genes. As a strong support group of friends and classmates helps her investigate, over successive days Tiffani's weird episodes continue ...Tiffani's faithful friends make inquiries at the school's physics department, and these detours take the plot into the universe (multiverse?) of the author's previous books, including Reality Alternatives (2016) and Temporal Dreams (2016), with guest appearances from their own dimension-hopping characters. This nimble narrative maintains a flighty tone, even with mild elements of danger and unease. Near the end, things really take off with a madcap cascade of competing timelines, alternate realities, and duplicate Tiffanis. Smith, a physics researcher and blogger, concludes the book with a short piece on contemporary quantum-physics theories of multiple realities. While this novel is the first in a series, it can be read as a standalone story.
A pleasing, tongue-in-cheek SF romp through mischief in the multiverse."

About the Author:

Lesley L. Smith is a physicist and science fiction author who delights in mixing humor with high concept ideas. The Perils of Tiffani series lets her explore time travel, alternate worlds, and the occasional cosmic disaster through the eyes of a heroine who is doing her best and causing chaos anyway. Her short fiction has appeared in Analog, Daily Science Fiction, Nature Futures, and other venues that enjoy stories with a quantum quirk. She is also an editor at Electric Spec and lives in Colorado with more books and diplomas than she can keep track of.
